The Weston Brain Institute is delighted to launch our Transformational Research 2017 program to fund high-potential translational research projects with excellent preliminary data.
Goal: To provide funding for preclinical translational research that will accelerate the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging.
Funding: A maximum of $1,500,000 over up to 3 years.
Eligibility: Researchers at or above the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent working in Canada at least 30% of the time, are eligible to apply as the Principal Applicant. Collaborators must be at the post-doctoral level or above.
Scope: Development of a therapeutic and/or a tool that helps to accelerate the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging. All the Institute’s neurodegenerative diseases of aging are covered by this program (see Funding Overview).
Clinical samples/data: Support includes projects that use clinical samples/data. However, conducting a clinical trial (e.g., testing a therapeutic or tool directly on patients) is not eligible for this program. Clinical samples/data can be from an ongoing clinical trial or from new patients recruited for this project. If the collected samples/data will be used initially for biomarker identification, this must be a finite process that is directly linked to a validation process in a well-defined clinical cohort (please refer to the Institute’s definitions for additional eligibility criteria).
(Revised) Dates: Online System Open for Submission: Tuesday, October 4, 2016

There are two stages to the application process:
