Dr. Francois Gros-Louis

Assistant Professor, Laval University

Dr. François Gros-Louis is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University. He completed his PhD in human genetics at McGill University and his postdoctoral fellowship at Laval University. He specializes in the genetics of neurodegenerative diseases and the use of cellular and animal models for the development of new therapies. He focuses on modeling these diseases in order to: 1) identify novel strategies for early diagnosis, 2) monitor disease progression, 3) assess response to existing and future treatments, 4) identify and understand early acting pathogenic mechanisms associated with these diseases, and 5) to develop new therapeutic avenues to cure these currently incurable diseases such as ALS.

Dr. Gros-Louis holds a prestigious Tier 2 Canada Research Chair on disease modeling and treatment of brain diseases . He has also been recently nominated as the Scientific Director of the Neuromuscular and Neurogenetic Clinic of the CHU de Quebec. This is one of the biggest clinics in Canada treating patients suffering neuromuscular and neurogenetic diseases.  He is also the Co-Director of the induced pluripotent stem cell Quebec platform.
